THE RIGHT TO PLAY

ARTICLE 31: UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

"Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts."

BARRIERS TO PLAY

In a recent study regarding the barriers to voluntary participation in sport for children, the cost of participating in sport was identified as a major barrier (Somerset & Hoare, 2018).

Children from low-income families are disproportionately affected by this barrier; with the rising costs in sports fees and sports equipment leading to lower participation (Somerset & Hoare, 2018).

HELP KIDS PLAY

At the New Sole Foundation, our aim is to reduce this barrier of cost to make it easier for kids to exercise their fundamental right to play and develop passions, relationships, and lifelong memories through sport
